About:China Business Visa

Do I have to be in my home country to apply for an M-Visa?

I am currently a student and have been accepted to work for a small sales office of a Dutch company called Corbion (to my knowledge that would be an M-type since i will only be staying here 4 more months), since they are not that well known in China I was wondering if I could still apply for it whilst not being in my home country (i won't be in PRC, probably in Bangkok or Hong Kong).

Mees, you don’t have to apply for it in your home country. Actually, it’s possible for you to change your student X type to business M type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB.
Or you can try to apply for a business M type in HK or Thailand. But it is more troublesome because the entry permit, residence permit or work permit are required.

Hi Jerry, thanks for the quick response. Did you use your M type for an internship or a regular job? Do you have experience with obtaining an M type in mainland PRC or in HK/Thailand? I will be travelling outside with a residence permit which is expiring during my trip outside China so I need to get a new one to get back into the country.

Hello, I didn’t use it for an internship or regular job. As far as I know, if you don’t have residence permit in HK or Thailand, it may be not that easy for you to apply for an entry permit to mainland PRC. I have never tried. But you can have a try.
