Where to go in Beijing when you have 8 hours?

My best buddy will arrive at 8am on Tuesday and we will leave to Shanghai at 8pm. Which would be the best way to spend our 12 hours? What to visit? Where to eat?

For the layover, you may go to see the Forbidden City first, and then tour around Tian'anmen Square. Afterwards, you may go to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street to have some delicious local food, such as Lamb Shashlik, Yogurt, and Roasted Duck. By the way, you are advised to book the tickets of Forbidden City online in case that the tickets might be sold out.

They have an official website for ticket booking. Try to google "Gugong Ticket" and you may find the webpage. But it is only in Chinese version. If you don't know Mandarin at all, it is best to ask a friend for help.
