About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Does 72 transit permit apply to me?

Hi!

I am traveling through Beijing to Phuket tomorrow, and wanted to spend 3 days in Shanghai on my way home to London. Does the 72 transit visa apply for each leg or is it cummulative? And, can I fly through different transit destinations?

So you will fly from UK to Beijng to Phuket, and return to UK via Shanghai? If so, you can use the 72-hour free transit for both legs of the trip. The transit time is not cumulative and you can fly through different transit destinations.

Correct!

Last question. I fly into Shanghai at 7:50 am on January 6, and want to fly out on January 9th at 23:40pm. Because the time doesn't count down until midnight, i am told, will this flight be acceptable?

Yeah, it’s acceptable because in Shanghai, the 72 hours starts from 00:00 the day following the entry date.
