About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

two stops in Shanghai for an american citizen

Hi;

I am flying from Tokyo in April and board the cruise on the same day in Shanghai. I understand - I don't have to apply for visa as it qualifies for under 24 hours transit.
Then, on my way back from the cruise, we dock in Shanghai and want to stay 2+ days there and then fly back home. What should I do, if anything?
thanks in advance,

L

Hi there, for your second transit in Shanghai, you need to apply for a G type visa in advance of the trip. A single entry will be enough, but you need to tell the immigration officer not to use your G type when you transit for the first time.
