72 Hour Visa Exception - SFO - Shanghai - HK

Hello,
I am a US citizen and am planning on flying from SFO to PVG (Shanghai) and staying for less than 72 hours before continuing on to Hong Kong. Am I correct in assuming that I do not need an entry permit as part of the 72 hour exception policy, as long as I can show my airline ticket to Hong Kong at customs?

Thanks.

Yes, you are right. And you should inform the flight steward that you plan to make use of 72 hours free transit at least 30 minutes in advance before the plane lands at the airport. By the way, it's not the customs. You should apply for the special stamp for the transit at the certain counter. Don't worry! You can find the counter easily by following the instructions.
