About:Urumqi Attractions

Can I visit Urumqi from December end to Jan. beginning?

Hi, we are planning to visit in December end (Dec 31st)-- I know its going to be very cold, but do you recommend going there for 3-4 days from say Dec 31st to Jan 4th? Will there be anything to do or do the main attractions close down because of snow? What all can we do then and what all we cannot? I read online staying at Kazakh yurts at Tianchi lake are highly recommended, but is that even possible in Dec end?

If you insist and the cold weather is not a problem, you can surely take a 3-4 days trip there. Although it will be very cold and snow sometimes, most attractions will be open as usual, like the Xinjiang Regional Museum, International Grand Bazaar, Tianshan Mountain and Tianchi Lake. Skiing would be the most interesting activity then. But I'm afraid the Kazakh yurts are usually unavailable in winter due to the cold weather.

Hi ,

All tourist attraction open in winter , you could go up to heavenly lake /130kms , southern mountains ski area . we had heavy snow a couple dasy ago ,it will get very cold in end Dec. Jan .

nearby city you should go to Turpan /180kms , a lot of historical sites worth to visit there .
