Well, generally speaking, you don’t need to worry about the safety problem. It’s ok for you to tour around prosperous downtown area in the night. But you are not suggested to go out alone in late night.1

The locals are really nice, peaceful, and accommodating. in fact, I have been there 6 times since 2004 and is my favorite vacation place in Asia. Just be alert and avoid crowded and very remote peopleless places.
The only few uniformed policemen I have seen are the motorcycle cops apprehending illegally park cars on streets. My last visit was in May 20151
