do i need to pay the tax if i mail five watches valued over $1000?

I bought five watches valued $1200.00.  I want o mail them to my family in China. How could I do that? Does my family member need to pay the tax if they pick them up in China post office? How much do they need to pay? Thanks

York, you'd better not post anything that is worth more than CNY 1000. If the customs finds out, you will be required to pay the duty, about 50 percent of its value.
