Renting an apartment in Shanghai with 10 year multiple-entry Tourist Visa?

Hello,
I am from USA, and have a 10 year multiple-entry Chinese Tourist type (must exit country every 60 days) and want to rent an apartment in Shanghai for at least 6 months. Is it possible to register at the police station (which is required when signing a lease for new apartment) when renting my apartment with this tourist type?
Thanks
Jay

Jay, I think you can rent an apartment with your multiple-entry tourist type. Yes, you need to register with the local police station within 24 hours after you arrive. If you stay at the hotel, you can require the registration form from them. According to what I know, your landlord need to pay the tax for the rentals. Please do not forget to tell him about this. Otherwise, you may not rent the apartment successfully.
