extension for l visa & renting of apartment

Hi, I would like to know what are the documents needed to apply for extension on L type and how long does it takes? Is it legal to rent an apartment (with one year contract) under L type (as my future employer is currently applying work permit for me, I would like to rent an apartment now under L type as I will be travelling in and out China for visits)?

Esther, you need to provide the return ticket, accommodation arrangement, your passport, the application form, the valid registration form of temporary residence, and a passport-style photo. It takes 7 working days to process the application after you submit it. You’d better go to the exit and entry administration of the local PSB to inquire if you can rent an apartment on a tourist L type.
