About:Tibet Travel Permit

I am a US citizen traveling in India. What do I need to do to visit Tibet?

Can I travel by myself or do I need to join a tour?
Thanks

You need to apply for a China visa (L type) and a Travel Permit to that region. It is fine to apply for the visa in India or you country in Chinese embassy or consulate. Self-trip is forbidden there, so you have to join a tour through a domestic travel agency. They will also help to handle the Travel Permit thing.
