About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am a us citizen traveling with my family

We will be departing Phuket, Thailand 02 January 2016, changing planes in Bangkok and arriving Beijing at 3:50 pm on 02 January 2016. We will depart Beijing at 5:50 pm 04 January 2016. Do we qualify for the 72 hour transit visa?

I need to clarify that we are arriving and departing the same airport in Beijing and going back to the US.
