About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I fly to Guangzhou and stay for 72 hours and fly back without a visa?

Hi,

Since the Visa application to China takes time, can I (UK citizen) fly from London to Guangzhou and stay for 72 hours, have my meetings then fly back to London without a transit permit?

If not, how about London-Guangzhou-Hong Kong -London?

Thank you.
