How far is Xiamen North Railway station to downtown Xiamen city centre

I will be arriving Xiamen by bullet train from Shenzhen, stayed in Xiamen for a few days to sight see the city and then take the bullet train back to Shenzhen. Do you recommend I stay near the Railway north station or in the city area of Xiamen. Your advise please.
