Brianna, it enabled Chinese people to trade with foreigners. Therefore, Chinese products like silk and porcelain were sold to the world. Meanwhile, foreign products including spices, gems and fruits also came to China. Take grape for example, it's said that grape was introduced by Zhang Qian during his second expedition to the Western Regions.
