Can I Work on a Re-entry Permit?

Hi
I've got to travel to Shanghai for work, but have been told I need to renew my HK ID card and then apply for a re-entry permit. Does this allow me to work in Shanghai and when would this expire.
If this doesn't allow me to work in Shanghai- what working visa would I need to obtain to move freely in and out of Shanghai?

China's laws are not the easiest to get your head around.
Thank you :)

Miss H, what re-entry permit do you mean? Based on regulations, if you want to work in PRC, you need to get a Z type entry permit. You can apply for it from HK as you have an ID there.

Hi Lisa- thank you for your reply? So if I renew my ID card and then apply for the home entry permit that will suffice? Do I need to apply for an HKSAR passport also or can I just renew my ID and apply for home entry permit. I was also advised by another party to apply for a 'hui xiang zheng' after I apply for an HKSAR passport? is this the same thing as the home entry permit?

Thank you

Home entry permit is the same document as the Hui Xiang Zheng. For all I know, this document is only issued to Chinese citizens, so I'm not sure whether you can get. Anyway, if you can get this document, you can work in mainland. The Z type is not needed. So I think you may need to apply for an HKSAR passport first and then get the home entry permit.
