Hi,I will arrive in Shanghai around 4pm on 1 January 2016 by plane for a cruise trip departing to Japan on 5pm 4 January 2016.  The cruise ship will then return to Shanghai at 6am 10th January 2016 and I will travel back to Australia by plane at 8:00pm on 10th January 2016.  Can you please let me what sort of entry permit do I need to apply?ThanksAlice

Alice, for the first time in Shanghai, you need to apply for a G type or L type entry permit. For the second time there, you don't need the entry permit because you qualify for the 24h free transit.
