About:Requirements for China Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit)

Applying for a permanent residence with a mix of work and study tenure

Hi there

I have been in China for five and a half years now. Three years and eleven months working for a multi national business and paying taxes every month and the rest of the period one year and four months doing my MBA. Can I still apply for a permanent residence?

Looking forward to your views.
Best,
Rohan

Rohan, if you don't have a Chinese family member, I'm afraid you are not qualified for the permanent residence.

Thanks Howard. The reason I asked this question was I remember reading an article about foriengers being eligible to apply if they've worked in PRC and paid taxes here for four years. I worked for almost four years but then had to start my MBA here. I currently hold a student visa until mid next year.

Well, Rohan, the preconditions are: 1. you need to work in a high-tech enterprise, foreign investment enterprise that is encouraged by the government or a foreign investment enterprise engaged in advanced technologies; 2. you have to have worked in PRC for no less than four years and the accumulative stay duration are not shorter than three years; and 3. you keep a good tax paying record.
