cancellation of old visa

i had heard that with the new 10 year tourist L type arrangement that it would be able to be held concurrently with another entry permit and that it wouldnt be cancelled, i cannot confrim this so i guess ill find out this week when i head out of china to get my work Z type. does anyone else know for sure?
