Hi there! Scottish guy here emigrating to China on a Z type in a month or so. The main reason I am leaving is to study in September with a university in Shandong. However, between now and then I intend to teach English at a Kindergarten in Jinan. My query is whether there will be any difficulties going from working to studying with the z type or temporary residence permit? Is there any specific processes I need to go through or is it a case of extending my residence permit through the university. Any information would be very much appreciated as I am somewhat clueless :)

Laconic, do you enter with a Z type or X type? If you enter with a Z type, you need to change it to the X type before your course begins. You should go to the local exit and entry administration with the registration form provided by the school and the JW 201 or 202 form. After you get the X type, renew your residence permit and you can study in PRC. However, you should understand that you are not allowed to work with the X type. If you want to, you have to get the consent of your school and add an endorsement on your X type.
