72 hour stay from LAX to PVG and then on to ICN

I am a US citizen and am flying from LAX to PVG and will be there for about 2.5 days and then flying on to seoul. Can I receive the 72 hour visa free transit? How do I apply for it? Do I need to do anything in the states before boarding my flight?

John, you can receive the 72 hour free transit. First, you need to inform the airline that you want to use this free transit service. The airline will then notify the Shanghai Immigration office. After you arrive there, you can go to the counter for this service and apply for it.
