An American on a layover stay in Kunming

I am looking at taking a flight that has a 15 hour connection wait in Kunming and is it possible to get a visa to go out of the airport and visit the city upon arrival?

Hi Trevor, if you only transit in Kunmming, actually you enjoy the 72-hour free transit policy and you are allowed to go out of the airport durng the layover time. The entry permit is not necessary.
