About:Beijing Subway

I wanna get the train from beijing airport to Tiananmen Square.

Do I have to get the line 2 first to dongzhimen?

Well, you are suggested to take airport express or airport shuttle bus line 3 to Dongzhimen Station. Then take subway line 2 to Qianmen Station, Exit A. After that, walk north around 0.6 miles.

Or from the airport, you can take airport shuttle bus line 12 to Sihui Traffic Hub first. Then take subway line 2 to Tiananmen Square East Station, Exit A. After arriving, walk west around 460 yards.

Hi Virginia,
is the bus the quickest way to visit Tiananmen square from the airport? Or the metro is faster?
We have a transit stopover of 8 hours. Will that time be enough to get the transit visa, visit the Tiananmen square and get back in time for our flight (taking into consideration the queues and crowds)?

Generally, metro transfer is quicker and a single trip takes around 45min to Tiananmen East, while there is a risk of traffic jam by bus. If only visit the square, your time is enough.

Actually, nob transit visa is needed. After landing, walk to the border check point to apply for a stay permit so that you are allowed to leave the airport. If there is no queue, you can get the permit within 10min.
