Our cruise ship stops in Shanghai for the day.

Do I need a visa to get off the ship?

Jeff, you can check whether you can enjoy the 24-hour visa-free transit policy. If you stops in mainland China for not more than 24 hours, you are eligible. In this case, you don't need a visa, but a temporary stay permit which you can obtain upon arrival to get off the ship.
