About:Dress Code in China

Should I wear a suit and tie when presenting a lecture at a University?

I will be presenting a lecture for the medical school of Shantou University. I am a medical doctor and university professor from Canada. Would a sport coat and dress slacks be OK, or would a suit and tie be expected?
Cheers,
Ron
