About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Flying to Shanghai staying overnight then getting on a cruise ship

My son and I are flying from London into Shanghai to join a cruise ship in Baoshan we may need to stay overnight in Shanghai what visa do we need and how do we apply for it?

Hey, Caroline, actually if you stay in mainland China for less than 24 hours and then go to the next destination, you don't even need the entry permit.

Thank you Amy, the problem I is that we are sailing to Japan and then back into Shanghai to fly back to the UK so we are re entering. this is where I get confused.
So we will be flying into Shanghai staying overnight, getting on ship for 6 days to Japan then back to Shanghai to fly home the same day. It's the fact that we are entering PRC twice that I am worried about :/

Oh, I see! It's OK. If you stop over in mainland PRC for not more than 24 hours both times, you don't need the entry permit.
