Visa for less than 5hrs to go out Shanghai airport for sightseeing

Hi, from India (passport) arriving with family at 6.55am then another flight at 11.30am same day after 5hrs. Can we go out for a quick "China visit" or we are not allowed to leave the airport compound.

Please advice as soon as possible.

Thank you.

You are actually allowed to leave the airport by applying for a stay permit after landing, but your time seems to tight. Considering that you need 1-2h to connect the onward flight, you only have at most 3 hours for sightseeing. To save time, I suggest you take Maglev to Longyang Road in 8min and then take a taxi to the Bund for a quick visit. The back way is the same. Or just stay in the airport to roam around for some shopping and dining.
