About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Australian on cruise ship 12 hours in Shanghai .Can I get a Free 24 hour Direct Transit Visa?

Australian with Australian passport/ Arrive Shanghai cruise port
7am March 2016 depart 11.00 pm same day. Travel agent says I need a full visa but have heard conflicting statements re the 24 hour free transit visa. Would like clarification..

Keith, if the cruise ship stops over in mainland China for not more than 24 hours altogether, you don't need the transit visa.
