About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Canadian Passport

Arriving in Shanghai at 5pm leaving the next day for Bangkok at 1pm

Am I required to obtain a Chinese Visa from the Consulate here in Vancouver?

Am I able to leave the airport?

How do I get this transit for 72 hours?

Hi, if you are Canadian passport holder, you will qualify for the 72h free transit scheme, so that you don't need to get the entry permit from the consulate in Vancouver. You can leave the airprot during the layover period. The thing you need to do is to tell the airline before the flight arrives and apply for it upon arrival at the airport.
