About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

China Eastern flight- From New York (USA) to Delhi (INDIA) VIA Shanghai Pu Dong Airport

I have INDIA Passport and am planning to travel in PRC Eastern Airways from "New York" to "Delhi"
The flight has one stop at Shanghai Pu Dong Airport and Layoff time is 19h 45m. I have two queries and would need help understanding the same.

1. Is this a case Direct Transit since flight layoff time at the airport is less than 24 hours and so I don't need any visa/document if I wait at airport itself. Please suggest.

2. If connecting flight got delayed and layoff time goes beyond 24 hours. What do I need to do in that case? If I need to apply for temporary entry permit then what would be cost and mode of payment?

3. Do I need to carry any Chinese currency to purchase water or food at airport or foreign currency like USD will work at the airport itself.

Thanks

Hi Rahul!
1. You are right. You can enjoy the 24-hour visa-free transit service, but you don't have to stay at the airport. Instead, you can move around to see something. Just apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport.
2. If the flight is delayed, you need to go to the nearby police station to apply for a visa. The cost is CNY 160. You may need to pay in cash.
3. You don't have to carry Chinese currencies. In case that you need to purchase water or food, you can exchange some money at the airport.
