Work permit for male beyond age 60

I worked in China on Expat assignment from my USA based company during the period 2006-2009 as an Engineering Director (returning to the USA at year end 2009). I am now needed to return to our China operations for another 2-3 year period, but now I am beyond age 60 and the Work Permit has been denied on the basis of age. What is the process for appeal, and what are the chances of getting approved if assignment would be to continue working at our Shanghai operations location in a management role? I currently hold a 10 yr business visa, but expect to spend much more time in China, so prefer to take up residence again. Will I need to secure another type of entry permit to get into the country for follow up on the Work Permit process? ... or can I enter to get things started using my current business M type? Thanks in advance for your recommendations

Howard, I'm afraid you can't put forward the appeal because the consular office will not handle it. Anyway, you are out of the age range that can work in PRC. I know some people elder than 60 work in PRC legally. Perhaps they got the work permit through agencies. You can have a try. If not successful, you can enter with the M type and see if you can convert it into a Z type within mainland PRC.
