What is the available public transport from Xian to Urumuqi ? thanks

Will backpack in Sept 2016, go for the trip looking for interesting places to visits .

There are 14 trains available. The travel time is about 25 – 30 hours. Direct flights are also available and it takes about 3.5 hours.
