About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Is it possible to apply for a temporary residence permit after entering China with an X2 type visa?

I want to stay for about 3 years, but my institution can't provide me a JW202 form to apply for X1.

Last time I was there, I had X2 (180 days) and that could easily be extended to 1 year. But as far as I know, the X2 can only be extended once.

Marcel, there is no temporary resident permit for X2 type. The longest duration of stay is 180 days. Yes, you can only extend it once.

The school told me the same.
