i have a 15 hour layover in hong kong, 6 am to 9 pm. should i buy an octopus card?

I am planning to visit Po Lin monastery and Avenue of Starts. If I buy it for $150 ($100 + $50 deposit) and can't use the whole money ($100), will I get the rest refunded? For example, if I use $50, will I get $100 refund?
