How much money can I carry through airport?

Hi,I am going to China on student visa and I need to pay the fees when I arrive there, so can I carry around 40000RMB ? I have university papers also.

Stanny, you can take 20000 RMB or 5000 USD in cash. 40000 RMB is too much. I suggest you take it a traveler's cheque or debit card and then withdraw the money from the banks after you arrive.
