About:China Business Visa

M/F or Z Visa?

Hello, I am supposed to go to Shanghai in a month for a payed internship in a Chinese company. I am Italian and the Chinese company told me that I should ask for a M type. However, at the Chinese embassy they told me that I need a Z type to go there. The Chinese company is still sure that I need a M type. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

The embassy is correct. If you are paid for your internship, then you should apply for a Z type. Please tell the company that the embassy requires you to apply for a Z type and ask if they can help you acquire the work permit to apply for the Z.

Thanks for your reply Amy.
That's what I did though and the Chinese company insisted on saying that I should ask for a M type since there is no specific type for internships. What I don't get is why in the invitation letter they said that I am going there for business and commercial purposes and there is no money involved.. As if they want to hide something or make the process easier! The thing is that I don't want to risk to do the "wrong" thing!

Yes, I think they are just trying to make the process easier. If you apply for the M type, they don't need to get the work permit for you.

Which country do you come from? Pakistan? If so, you have to get the group tourist L type through travel agencies. You can't apply for it by yourself.

Hi Alessandro I'm literally going through exactly the same thing! Did you manage to sort it out? If so, how?

Nothing yet Isabelle, apparently the Chinese company doesn't want to help me this way and they are just trying to suggest some other ways to say that I am going there for a certain business. I just see this as a way of lying to the Chinese government and find it ridiculous and nonsense. I simply want to do things the right way and don't want to risk to have any trouble once in China!
I hope that you'll figure it out soon! In case you can reply here or I can do the same as soon as I get good news... Otherwise you can contact me privately somehow. Doing basically the same with other people here in Italy.
