does anyone know what type of visa i need?

Hi, my employer is asking me to travel to yangzhou where i will stay for 1 week, before i reside in beijing. She has not told me the type I should be applying for, but on my invitation letter it says reason for visit to china 'performance'. Also on the invitation letter it says the inviter is my employer, which automatically makes the application into a Z ype. This all makes sense until the work permit comes into play. for a Z type, you need a work permit? Well I haven't been provided one from my employer nor PRC... Does anyone have any suggestions for me as I am due to fly out to Yangzhou in the coming week. Thanks

AB, you should apply for a Z type for sure. Yes, you should get the work permit from local labor bureau with the help of your employer. Then you need to apply for the Z type with your work permit. Which type does your employer ask you to apply for entering China this time? L type? If so, I am afraid that you still need to exit to apply for the Z type after you acquire the work permit.
