In 2014 there was approximately 650,000 outbound tourists to Ethiopia, most going to Addis Ababa. There is also a high proportion of business, NGO and African Union arrivals. That would expected to be about 700,000 this year, 2016. However with the civil unrest the cancellations have been very severe. As well, many countries including European and North American countries have Ethiopia under a travel advisory which doesn't help. I was there last month and everything is quiet. In fact I was in Bishiftou, Where the demonstrations started, and everything seemed normal.. But the statistics are always published by the ministry of culture and tourism.
