About:China Transit Visa

I have a layover of 4 hours and 50 minutes in PEK. Do i need a transit visa?

I have a connecting flight in Shanghai. Im travelling from Philippines to Newark, USA. My layover is about 4 hours in PEK. I also have two different tickets. Phil to shanhai via Air China, then shanghai to US visa United Airways. Do i need to get out and get my luggage again, then go thru custom screenings again?

Robert, if your total transit period (starting from the moment you arrive in Shanghai and ending at the moment you fly from Beijing) is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy 24 hours free transit. However, you need to get the stay permit when you arrive in Shanghai. Since you have two different air tickets, I think you need to go through the immigration to retrieve your luggage. But I still suggest you contact your airlines to confirm this.
