leshan giant buddhahuanglongxi on a day trip from chengdu?

Hey, I was wondering if it's possible to go early in the morning from Chengdu to see The Giant Buddha in Leshan (I was thinking of just seeing it from a boat - would you recommend also climbing up?) and then from Leshan go the ancient town, spend a few hours there, and still catch the last bus back to Chengdu. Is there a direct bus/train between Leshan and HLX? If so, do you think such a day trip would be possible?Thank you

Well, if you just touring around the Big Buddha from the boat, one day is enough. But climbing the mountain is highly recommended. And there are many other things inside the scenic spot, like temples and inscription steles. From Leshan to the ancient town, there is no direct bus. You need to take coach to Pengshan County first. The schedules are 08:40, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:30 and 18:00. The ticket fare is CNY 28 per person. Then transfer the bus to arrive at the destination. As I know, the last bus schedule back to CD is at around 18:00.

I can imagine that spending more time there would be great but I want to cover those two highlight points in one day so later I can spend more time discovering the amazing ways of Chengdu. Anyway, I will see many more temples and thus have to prioritize. Would you be so kind to give me the bus number to take from Leshan?

There is no special bus number for the bus, but there are signs in Chinese showing the terminuses. Well, there is no direct bus from Leshan to the ancient town, you need to take a bus to Pengshan COunty first, and then transfer another local bus to the ancient town, or hire a private car to the destination.
