how to renewal child passport if mother was divorced?

My wife was divorce and had custody of the child. The child holding a student pass. We was told it is needed to have the birth father to acknowledge than can renew passport. But the father could not be found. How can we renew the passport without the birth father present. Are the child custody not valid enough?

Max, if your wife is the only custodian of the child, you can provide Legal Custody Cerificate so that your wife can be present alone at the embassy to renew the passport. If your wife have custody jointly with her ex-husband, then an authorization letter signed by the father is required.
