If I come in to get a group visa for my family, do I need to bring passport photos for them as well?

or can I just have one for me? Does my family need to be present in order to process the group photo or can I do it by myself?

Seneca, did you join a tour group organized by a travel agency? If not, I'm afraid you can't apply for the group type entry permit. But you can still submit the applications for your family. Each member needs a set of application documents. That is to say, they need to attach a passport style photo on their own application forms so that you don't need to bring their photos.
