Applying for tourist visa from country (Sri Lanka) other than permanent residence country

Hi,
I have read on few different web pages that document of residence is required if you are applying even for L type. I am traveling around Asia as a tourist, and it's quite complicated and far for me to go back to my homeland country so I can apply for this type. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your help!

Hi Nems, as you are just applying for the tourist L type, it's possible to obtain it from other nearby countries as long as you have a valid entry permit for that country. However, Sri Lanka is not a good choice. If you apply from there, you may need to get an invitation letter from Chinese Tourism Bureau and it's hard to get it if you do not join in a travel group arranged by tour agency. I advise you to apply from other Asian countries.
