About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

do we qualify for visa free travel?

We are flying from Hanoi Viet nam to Guangzhou...we have a 9 hour layover there with a room booked in the Pullman hotel at the airport in Guangzhou. We then have a Morning flight to Shanghai where we then board our final flight back to the US.

Plunkett, you are disqualified for 72 hours free transit in these two cities. However, if your total transit in Guangzhou and Shanghai is less than 24 hours (from your arrival in Guangzhou and departure in Shanghai), then you can make use of 24 hours free transit. However, I personally think you should apply for a transit type in advance in case the immmigration doesn't allow you to make use of 24 hours free transit or your transit in these two cities are longer than 24 hours.
