About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the 72hr visa apply for me? If yes, how much does it cost?

I am a U.S. Citizen traveling from the U.S. To Bangkok with a layover in Beijing. Upon return to the U.S. I will layover again in Beijing, can I get again on our way back?
