I have a bit of a tricky situation. I have taken an English teaching job with an Education Company in Guangzhou. This means my Z visa is being taken care of by the employer. However, my boyfriend wants to travel over with me and find work there which would mean travelling over on a tourist type and changing to a work type once he has found employment. He would have to travel out  to Hong Kong to change over. Does anyone have experience of this situation or comment on how easy/ difficult this process actually is? Thanks for any advice in advance!

Orla, if you boyfriend comes with an L type and then change the L type into a Z type at Guangzhou, he has a bigger chance to get the Z type. It's not suggested to apply the Z type from Hong Kong because it's nearly impossible. I heard that people say it's easier to get the Z type than in other cities.
