About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the 72 hour free transit policy apply or do I require a visa?

I have a US passport. I'm flying into Hong Kong direct from Vancouver, Canada and then train to Guangzhou. Stay 72 hours in Guangzhou for the Trade Fair. Train back to Hong Kong and flight back to Vancouver, Canada.

Sorry, the 72-hour free transit does not apply to you. You need to get an M type in advance.
