About:China Transit Visa

does that still qualify as the "third country" with that connection?

I Arrive from Tokyo to Beijing and stay less than 72 hours and depart Beijing to Chicago with a connection via Tokyo.

Anita, as the connection is in Tokyo, it's not regarded as a third country, so you cannot make use of the 72-hour free transit.
