Transit permit vs L visa

Hi, I'm a Colombian citizen linving in the United States. I have a flight connecting in Guangzhou, with an 8 hours layover, and I want to get out of the airport for a couple of hours to see a friend who lives there.
Do I need a G type or an L type to do that?
Thank you!

Hey, neither the L ype nor G type is required. You are eligible for the 24-hour free transit policy. If you want to leave the airport, you can apply for a temporary stay permit on the spot.
