You may need a visa of China Mainland.
No, you do not need to go through the customs and immigration. Upon your landing, you can go to the ferry service counter directly. There is special passage and shuttle bus getting you to the ferry terminal. Show your luggage tag when buying the ticket and your luggage will be transferred directly to Skypier.
